About the Project

Project period: February 2008 - July 2009

This project aims at setting up a system for supporting the independent civil society organizations in Cuba, by creating and maintaining the social frame necessary to develop such initiatives. Respecting human rights and freedom of expression and thought are only two directions approached within the project, through activities that would contribute to developing a civil society able to resist the political oppressions.

Objectives:

Expanding the Europe - Cuba NGO Network, lobbying for creating civil society organizations in Cuba and for activating the existing ones;
Offering logistic, informational and financial support for the representatives of the Cuban civil society and opposition movements;
Lobbying on the European level for consolidating the EU policy towards Cuba.

Activities:

APD tried to identify the Cuban dissidents’ needs in terms of human and financial resources. This information has an essential role in creating a mechanism able to offer the necessary means for developing the non-governmental groups and organizations, for turning them into the most efficient instruments for monitoring the activities in the leadership of the regime. APD focused on the way the Romanian NGOs could transfer similar expertise from our country to the Cuban groups, in order to support their fight against the communist dictatorship.
